Bill is responsible for bringing my vocabulary up to speed. He sent me this list of ten words that are a fairly recent addition to popular jargon. I only had heard one of them used - greenwashing. And frankly, the only reason I recognized that word was because a friend recently pointed out I'd been greenwashed.
Perhaps you'll fare better than I did ... if nothing else, you've got a few new words to add to your vocabulary!
Luxcession - Mass-class luxury items taking a hit as the economy continues to affect more and more consumers' purchasing choices.
Dotcomrade - A friend or acquaintance that you met online, but have never met in person.
Greenwashing - The practice of bogus environmental marketing.
Info Snacking - Wasting time at work by surfing the web.
Blacking Out - Turning off any device that people can reach you with (cell phone, two-way, computer, home phone, etc.) in order to avoid someone.
Compunicate - To chat with someone via Instant Messenger while you¹re both in the same room, each on separate computers, instead of actually speaking to each other.
Defriend - To remove somebody from your established list of contacts, considered the ultimate snub on social network.
Generica - Features of the American landscape that are exactly the same regardless of where you are -- such as strip malls and fast food places.
Mouse Potato - The online generation's answer to the couch potato.
Googleganger - Another individual with the same name as you whose records and/or stories are mixed in with your own when you Google yourself.
