Labor Day Weekend

The holiday signaling the end of summer, Labor Day is the last three-day weekend for extended time with our families, a spectacular season-ending barbeque, or one more quick get-away. Labor Day was created to celebrate American workers’ economic and social achievements throughout the years. And what better way to celebrate than to relax and enjoy the last days of summer.

For the Catalyst Crew, we all had our own way of enjoying the three day weekend.

Ed – I spent the weekend catching up with chores and playing with my kids. The highlight of the weekend was barbequing with neighbors, friends and family on Sunday evening. We also broke out the washers game since the weather so nice.

Judy - I spent Labor Day weekend cleaning out my basement and the whole house. I guess you can say I did my fall cleaning. My son Kyle came over to visit – which was a nice surprise - and I got to see him again the next day. Kyle and his wife Abby brought us to a great Mexican Restaurant in McPherson.

Jill – The Labor Day weekend started with what every SaltHawk has been looking forward to for weeks...the HHS vs. Rockhurst football game at home! It did not disappoint, HHS won and all of Hutchinson was very happy. Makes for a good Labor Day party conversation.

The rest of my weekend was spent with family (and pets)! The work is never done on our property so mowing, trimming, weeding, and raking swallowed most of the weekend. Add a little work inside too, and viola...the weekend is over!
We did fit in grilling out and lounging in front of the chiminea, it was lovely.

Travis – Birthdays are fun especially on a three day weekend. We had a party, for my birthday, at Carey park’s main gazebo which included most of my family from both sides. Then afterwards I went to my friend’s house and we spent the rest of the weekend gaming.

Bill — Although I did manage to sneak in some relaxing moments reading in the hammock swing, a sense of guilt compelled me to volunteer as an assistant for Brenda’s latest home decorating project. That meant stripping wallpaper in the master bedroom, then rolling and brushing on the paint. (A direct reversal from the wallpaper-hanging party we had just a few years ago.) In all fairness, I must admit she did the largest share of the work by far. But, again in fairness, the whole darn project was her idea in the first place.

Konny – I had a chill weekend in Texas with my family. We had a smoke out - I am talking about an all day, ribs and brisket smoke out with Stubbs barbeque. I also got to try beer butt chicken for the first time! It is also called beer can chicken.

Marc – I spent the weekend DJing in Old Town Wichita, visiting the zoo with my wife and having a picnic with friends and our guinea pigs!
